Is it hard to learn to fly?No! People of all shapes and sizes, ages and abilites have learned to fly. It's fun, and from the beginning of your traning, you get to do most of the actual flying! On the practical side, while flying isn't a difficult skill to learn, you'll have to be willing to stick with it until you meet all the requirements. Also, you should consider the cost of becoming a pilot - you'll have to pay for both your training and the required physical exam. When can I start?Right away! All you have to do is contact a flight instructor and sign up for an introductory lesson. You don't have to have a Student Pilot's Certificate or a medical certificate to take flying lessons - but of course you won't get to fly solo right away! That takes time and paperwork as described in this guide. How many lessons do I have to take before I solo? This depends on you and your learning curve. There is no set number of lessons or hours of flight training - your instructor must ensure that you have learned to perform certain maneuvers before allowing you to solo. You must also aquire a Student Pilot Certificate and a medical certificate before soloing. If an engine faliure occurs, what will happen?Modern aircraft engines are quite reliable and rarely fail. However, your lessons will teach what to do in this situation, including selecting a good landing area and landing safely. How much does it cost? The cost of training depends on you and how much flight and ground instruction you need to show your instructor that you have learned the material. Flying is not inexpensive, but it is well worth the money you will spend. Aircraft rental costs (includes everything) ranges from $124 to $178 an hour depending on the aircraft you choose. Instructor costs range from $50 to $65 per hour depending on your instructor. The FAA requires a miniumum of 40 hours of flight time to earn your Private Pilot Certificate, however, most students average between 50 and 60 hours of flight time. In addition, you'll have between 10 and 20 hours of ground school. Will I get to have the same instructor throughout my training? At SkyBound, the answer is yes. Our instructors are career instructors who like to see their students through to the end of their training. However, in the event of something unfortunate, at most you will only be switched to one other instructor. Is flying safe?Yes! A well-built, well-maintained aircraft is as safe or safer than many other forms of transportation. | |||||||||||||||
